NEET examination

After NEET result: Counselling begins
This is the stage where many students become confused.
There are essentially two major counselling routes:
A. MCC Counselling
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) conducts counselling for specified All India/central and other participating seats.
MCC’s responsibilities include online counselling for the applicable 15% All India Quota (AIQ) UG seats and specified institutions/categories.
MCC counselling covers, among other categories, specified seats in:

JIPMER
BHU
AMU
Delhi institutions
Faculty of Dentistry, Jamia Millia Islamia
Deemed Universities
applicable All India Quota seats
The exact seat categories and eligibility conditions must be checked in the relevant year’s counselling bulletin.
State Counselling
State/UT counselling authorities conduct counselling for their applicable state quota and other seats. Therefore, a NEET candidate may need to deal with:
MCC counselling + State counselling depending on the colleges and seats they are targeting.
What happens if you get a seat?
Suppose you receive:
MBBS Seat u2013 Government Medical College X
You normally have to decide whether to:
Accept/retain the seat
or
Participate in further rounds
depending on the rules applicable to that counselling round.
You must carefully read the instructions because different rounds can have different consequences.
Reporting to college
After accepting the allotted seat, you must complete the admission formalities.
This can involve:
Document verification
Payment of college fees
Medical fitness requirements
Original document submission/verification
Undertakings
Anti-ragging documentation
Other institutional requirements
Only after completing the prescribed admission process does your seat become an actual college admission.
Important documents to keep ready
Keep several sets of your important documents.

The most important concept: Rank vs qualifying marks
A student may say:
“I qualified NEET, so I should get MBBS.”
Not necessarily.
There are two different things:
Qualifying NEET
Means you have met the prescribed qualifying criteria.
Getting an MBBS seat
Requires obtaining a seat through the applicable counselling process.
For a good government MBBS college, simply crossing the qualifying cutoff is generally nowhere near sufficient.
You should therefore focus on maximising your rank, not merely qualifying.
