Dr. Mohd. Iqbal Mir, popularly known as “Meer Sir,” is an educator, academic counsellor, researcher, entrance-examination expert, UPSC mentor and social-science scholar associated with Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), New Delhi. His professional journey reflects a combination of academic scholarship, teaching, research, student counselling and educational mentorship. With academic training in Sociology and Education and a multidisciplinary interest in Political Science, History, Law, Research Methodology and General Studies, he has developed a distinctive profile in the field of education and competitive-examination guidance.
Meer Sir completed his Ph.D. from the Department of Teacher Training and Non-Formal Education (IASE), Jamia Millia Islamia, with research centred on “Exploring the Processes and Community Implications of the Commodification of Education.” His doctoral research examines the changing nature of education in contemporary society and the ways in which market-oriented processes influence educational access, affordability, opportunity and community life. His academic foundation includes an M.Ed. from the Department of Educational Studies, JMI, an M.A. in Sociology from JMI, and a B.Ed. from SEM College, University of Kashmir. He completed his undergraduate studies in Sociology, Political Science and History at SAM Government Degree College, Budgam, University of Kashmir.
His academic achievements are supported by professional certifications and field exposure. He qualified UGC-NET in Sociology in 2020 and holds a Diploma in Computer Applications from NIELIT (DOEACC) and a Diploma in Urdu Language from Farogh-e-Urdu. His early engagement with educational fieldwork came through participation in the ASER Educational Survey during 2012–2013, providing him with firsthand exposure to educational conditions and learning realities.
Meer Sir‘s professional experience extends beyond conventional classroom teaching. He continues to work as a Counsellor of Sociology with IGNOU at Jamia Millia Islamia since 2024–26, assisting learners with academic guidance and counselling. He has also participated in the PMMMNMTT programme at Hansraj College, University of Delhi, served as an Account Manager with Reliance Communications, worked as a Trainer with NIS Sparta under the UDAAN Project, and served as a Supervisor for B.Ed. Simulation Training at IASE, JMI. These diverse experiences have helped him develop skills in counselling, training, academic supervision, communication and student mentoring.
A significant dimension of Meer Sir‘s work is his commitment to helping students navigate competitive examinations and higher-education opportunities. Through his identity as “Meer Sir,” he has become associated with academic counselling and entrance preparation, particularly for students aspiring to enter reputed universities and competitive academic programmes. His mentoring approach emphasises conceptual clarity, systematic preparation, examination strategy, previous-year questions, practice, research guidance and confidence-building. His work through Meer Sir Academy reflects his broader vision of making structured academic guidance accessible to students seeking admission to higher educational institutions.
His academic interests are deliberately interdisciplinary. They include Sociology, Education, Political Science and Indian Polity, History, Social Psychology, Business Studies, Law, General Aptitude, General Studies and Knowledge, Indian Knowledge System, Research Methodology, NEP 2020, Teacher Training, UPSC, BPSC, JKPSC and UGC-NET/JRF. This wide range enables him to approach educational and social questions from multiple perspectives and to connect theoretical knowledge with practical examination and career requirements.
Research and scholarly engagement remain central to Meer sir’s professional identity. His earlier research projects included “Slum Health and Education in GTB Nagar (Slum), New Delhi” and “Study of the Moral Code in the Schooling System through a Functionalist Perspective.” His doctoral research on the commodification of education represents a continuation of his interest in education as a social institution. He has also been involved in the co-supervision of a dissertation examining “The Role of Iran in the Israeli–Palestinian Conflict: Strategic Implications and Outcomes.”
Meer Sir has actively participated in academic conferences, seminars, workshops and professional-development programmes. His presentations have addressed contemporary educational, cultural and social issues. These include educational challenges and modern pedagogical approaches in Kashmir’s open and distance learning system, the historical and cultural contributions of Indian women, the educational contributions of Dr. Zakir Husain and the establishment of Jamia Millia Islamia, and teacher education in Kashmir through the Indian Knowledge System.
His scholarly presentations also include his first doctoral colloquium on “Exploring the Processes and Community Implications of Commodification of Education,” presented at IASE, JMI, in July 2025. In August 2026, he presented a research paper titled “GST and the Commodification of Education in India: Challenges, Opportunities, and Policy Reforms” at a national seminar on GST 2.0: Sectoral Growth, Prospects and Challenges, organised by the Department of Commerce, School of Business Studies, Central University of Kashmir, in collaboration with ICSSR, New Delhi.
His publication record reflects his continuing engagement with education and society. In 2025, he contributed Chapter 27, “Revisiting Teacher Education in Kashmir through Indian Knowledge System,” to the volume Diversified Teacher Education in the Context of NEP-2020 and NCTE Initiative. He has also submitted research papers dealing with emotional regulation and compulsive buying behaviour among young adults and entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial intentions among school-going students in Delhi. His earlier public writings addressed themes such as women and patriarchy, Kashmir and international affairs, digital trust, and Iran–Kashmir relations.
Meer Sir has further strengthened his academic profile through participation in professional-development programmes, including the NEP Orientation and Sensitization Programme at MMTTC, Jamia Millia Islamia, workshop lectures on Urban Sociology at IASE-JMI, and the Faculty Development Programme in ICT and Emerging Technologies organised in August 2026 by the Department of Educational Studies, JMI, in collaboration with CIET, NCERT.

Meer Sir (Mohd. Iqbal Mir) has also contributed to public discourse through his writings on social, political, cultural and contemporary issues. In 2018, he authored “Socially Constructed Woman in Patriarchal Society,” published in the Kashmir Observer, reflecting on the social construction of gender and the position of women within patriarchal structures. In 2017, he wrote “While India Has Lost an Ally, Pakistan Gains Another Strong Voice in Favor of Kashmir Plebiscite,” published in Wilayat Times, engaging with developments in Kashmir and their wider political implications. During the same year, his articles “e-Trust: What Happens Online May Be Newer but No Less Real” and “Iran and Kashmir: Centuries-Old Friends Shaking Hands Again,” published in Oracle Opinions, explored emerging questions surrounding trust in the digital age and the historical and contemporary relationship between Iran and Kashmir. Collectively, these writings demonstrate his early engagement with issues of society, gender, technology, international affairs and the political dimensions of Kashmir.
